Paw Patrol Toy Reviews
Our #1 Choice – Spin Master Paw Patrol Figure Set 6 Piece
The Spin Master Paw Patrol Figure Set 6 Piece has a lot of potential for play because of its six-pronged crime-fighting team.
- Six separate toys
- Great for group play
- Entertaining spinning action
- Choking hazard
Each member of the Paw Patrol makes an appearance in this set. While there isn’t a huge amount of interactivity with each piece of the set, there is still a lot of potential for making play environments which feature active members and also those on the sidelines.
Because of the number of pieces in this set, it is a good way to introduce your children’s friends to play with the Paw Patrol. There are simply too many toys for one child to play with all at once.
Nonetheless, this toy set is not any weaker in solo play than in collaborative play. This makes it great for children who enjoy playing in groups or alone.
You may want to be careful about who you give these Paw Patrol toys to, however. Each of the pieces is small enough to choke on for a young child.
Our #2 Choice – Nickelodeon Paw Patrol – My Size Lookout Tower with Exclusive Vehicle, Rotating Periscope and Lights and Sounds
The Nickelodeon Paw Patrol – My Size Lookout Tower is the winner of the toy of the year awards of 2018, meaning that it is one of the best toys of any kind that you will come across, never mind Paw Patrol.
- Excellent for Paw Patrol enthusiasts
- Lights and sound
- Represents every Paw Patrol activity
- Assembly required by adult
- Noisy by design
The iconic Paw Patrol lighthouse-style lookout tower is one of the mainstays of the series. Your child has seen this before and been interested in a play session.
With this toy, you can give your child the joy of the entire nine yards of the Paw Patrol’s base. The tower has a handful of Paw Patrol add-ons, including a car and two members of the patrol.
This is an interactive toy that will let you know when it is being played with. The tower makes a bunch of sounds and lights when it is activated. The characters will state their phrases at the push of a button, which will be great for children who like audio toys.
You may get a bit irritated by the constant flow of sounds out of this unit, but your child will love it. You will need to help your young Paw Patrol member to assemble this toy set, however.
Our #3 Choice – Paw Patrol Skye’s High Flyin’ Copter, Vehicle Figure
The Paw Patrol Skye’s High Flyin’ Copter, Vehicle Figure is a soaring toy for those who prefer Skye as their favorite Paw Patrol heroine.
- The ultimate toy for Skye fans
- High build quality
- Not perfect for all Paw Patrol fans
Every Paw Patrol fan has their favorite Paw Patrol member. For some, it’s Skye, the high-flying diva member of the patrol.
With this toy, your child will get a surprisingly high-quality helicopter which can also double as a land vehicle. Skye herself makes an appearance as a detachable action figure which your child will love to play with.
This toy isn’t the best for creative play, but it is certainly the best toy which represents Skye out of all the Paw Patrol toys.
On the other hand, if your child isn’t crazy about Skye, this toy might not be the most exciting. That doesn’t mean it can’t fill out the stable of a full set of Paw Patrol toys, but it may be suboptimal for a first toy.
Our #4 Choice – Paw Patrol Chase’s Spy Cruiser, Vehicle Figure
The Paw Patrol Chase’s Spy Cruiser, Vehicle Figure is a great alternative to the Skye toy we reviewed last. The Chase toy is perfect for children who prefer Chase as a character for his dynamic driving action.
- Great for those who love fast driving members of the Patrol
- Three separate play pieces
- Bright blue aesthetic
- Not suited for the youngest fans
As the cruising police-themed member of the Paw Patrol, Chase has a lot of appeal. Known for his fast driving skills, Chase is one of the more prominent members of the patrol, which makes him an ideal toy choice.
Chase’s police van has a nice spotlight and a convenient riding spot for Chase. The Chase fans among the Paw Patrol fandom will love this toy because of all the opportunities it has. There is also a small drone which Chase uses in the show.
The drone itself is a bit small, even for a child’s hands, however. It might be a bit tough to play with, and it is a choking hazard.
Our #5 Choice – Paw Patrol Racers 3-Pack Vehicle Set, Marshall, Rocky, Rubble
The Paw Patrol Racers 3-Pack Vehicle Set, Marshall, Rocky, Rubble has something for everyone who loves the patrol.
- Great for play in small groups
- Three separate major characters and their vehicles
- Friendly look
- Characters don’t detach from their vehicles.
With three separate members of the Paw Patrol and their respective vehicles featured, this toy set is perfect for groups of fans to play together.
In this set, there’s Chase, Zuma, and Ryder, three of the patrol’s core members. Each has a vehicle as distinctive as their personality.
While you may not think that your child will love playing with the dump truck, you’d be surprised at how many love Ryder and his commitment to the public good.
The main benefit of this set is that your child will get three separate play opportunities. This makes the set perfect for sharing with a small group. Each of the toys is high quality, and cheerful with its bright coloration.
Our #6 Choice – Ultimate Rescue Fire Truck
The Ultimate Rescue Fire Truck has a two-foot extendable ladder plus lights, sounds and more.
- Giant fire truck packed with features
- Includes ladder which extends two feet
- Includes Marshall the fire dog
- Stickers must be applied
- Requires two AA batteries
Build to tackle the toughest missions, the Ultimate Rescue Fire Truck is packed with features including a two-foot extendable ladder, water cannons (which shoot plastic darts), lights, sounds, and an openable cab.
The set also includes a Marshall toy. He fits behind the wheel, in the lookout cab, and in the small car. It’s a great gift for kids over the age of three who like big fire trucks with lots of moving parts.
Our #7 Choice – VTech Paw Patrol Treat Time Marshall
This motorized, talking Marshall with moving eyes and ears helps kids learn letters, colors, phonics and more.
- Talking, moving, motorized Marshall
- Toy includes a variety of activities
- Helps kids learn letters, colors and more
- Requires batteries
- Flat back causes the toy to fall over fairly frequently
Marshall isn’t just here to fight fires! He saves the day in other ways by helping kids learn the alphabet, colors and more. He’s a motorized, reactive toy with multiple activities.
Kids feed Marshall “treats” which make him say letters or tell stories. When playtime is over, the plastic treats can be stored inside the toy. It requires three AA batteries.
Our #8 Choice – Crayola Color Wonder Paw Patrol Coloring Book
This 18-page coloring book features Paw Patrol scenes and includes five mess-free Color Wonder markers.
- 18-page coloring book featuring fan-favorite characters
- Color Wonder markers are mess-free
- Reusable pages can be colored multiple times
- Book doesn’t have too many scenes
Kids and parents both love Crayola Color Wonder coloring books. The unique markers only color the special Color Wonder paper. They can’t make any marks on skin, clothing or linens.
The detailed scenes feature a wide variety of favorite characters. Plus, the book is reusable. Kids can color in their favorite scenes as many times, and in as many different ways, as they wish. It’s safe, non-toxic and suitable for kids three and older.
What To Look For In Paw Patrol Toys
Paw Patrol toys are all relatively new, so there is no need to worry about whether you are purchasing a Paw Patrol toy from the correct series or run of the show.
The main issue with Paw Patrol toys is their quality. Most are of fairly low build quality, which manifests in several ways.
First, Paw Patrol toys tend to have defects in their painting or injection molding. This means that they are either imperfectly painted or have leftover hanging plastic from the manufacturing process.
These are more than cosmetic issues. If your child is very young, they may still be placing objects into their mouth to learn more. If there are hanging pieces of plastic, these may come off of the toy and be ingested by your child accidentally.
This is not necessarily an issue with 100% of Paw Patrol toys. However, when you purchase a Paw Patrol toy, be sure to check it over for chipped paint or remainder plastics which are not clearly necessary for the toy. You can chip these off very easily with a fingernail or a knife in about two seconds.
The other thing to look out for in Paw Patrol toys is that the toy you purchase is the character your child likes. The Paw Patrol characters have drastically different personalities, and each will appeal to a certain kind of child.
You wouldn’t want to get a Chase toy for someone who prefers the constructive Zuma or the socially conscious Ryder. Likewise, you wouldn’t want to grab a Skye toy for someone who prefers ground vehicles to helicopters.
Most importantly, your child may identify with the young human leader of the Paw Patrol more than any individual member. The toys of the leader are distinctively human in comparison to the others, so they should be very easy to find.
Finally, Paw Patrol toys are meant to be played with as a group. There isn’t any such thing as a long member of the patrol, so your child will benefit from having multiple members of the patrol to play with.
This means that sets of Paw Patrol toys are much better for playing than individual toys. You can easily pick up several Paw Patrol toys at the same time, but many come in groups of three or more, so picking up one of these to start is preferable.
It’s okay to have duplicated of the members of the Paw Patrol, so don’t worry about overlapping with prior toys your child may have.
Is There A Best Paw Patrol Toy?
There isn’t any single best Paw Patrol toy, but the more comprehensive play sets which feature the team’s base and several members of the team have a leg up over the more constrained sets.
Once again, the Paw Patrol team is meant to be played with together rather than individually.
What Are The Best Paw Patrol Toys For Creative Play?
Paw Patrol toys tend to be weak in the creative play department, so you may want to compensate for this.
In general, the best Paw Patrol toys for creative play are those that provide an environment for your child to create their own story. These are often environmental playsets more than they are the individual characters of the patrol.
There are not very many building-oriented Paw Patrol toys, but those that exist are even better for creative play than the others.
The Paw Patrol toys intended for creative play are those which are heavily interactive. This means that there are multiple ways of having the Paw Patrol member engage with their other toys. These toys are typically significantly more complicated than the other Paw Patrol toys, which tend to be simple.
As far as Paw Patrol toys go, the more complex toys will be better suited for creative play than those which have no articulated parts or separating pieces.
You will still probably want to supplement your child’s Paw Patrol toys with a creative outlet to account for the fact that they will be growing up very quickly during the time that they like Paw Patrol.
What Accessories Are The Best For Paw Patrol Toys?
Your child will get the most mileage out of their Paw Patrol toys if they can accessorize. Unfortunately, many of the Paw Patrol toys do not have extensive accessory sets, unlike other brands of toys. So, it’s up to you to provide the accessories.
The accessories you provide to complement your child’s Paw Patrol toys will vary depending on what your child prefers within the Paw Patrol. If your child gravitates towards the crime fighting and fire fighting side of the Paw Patrol, accessories which help your child reproduce the environment will be best.
This could include anything from city or forest props to victims needing rescuing. On the other hand, if your child prefers the organizational and strategic side of the Paw Patrol, accessories to complement their own Paw Patrol base and command center will be desirable.
This might include things like a command station or several different areas where they could send the Paw Patrol on missions.
Others yet might prefer the constructive and repairing functions of the Paw Patrol. These children are easy to please because you can simply pair their Paw Patrol toys with garbage that needs collecting or rubble that needs removal.
Make sure that they have the right Paw Patrol members to handle these challenges, though!
